Whether you are a meat lover or a vegetarian only person when it comes to ordering pizza, Donatos now has a solution to meet both camps.

The pizza maker launched its plant-based pepperoni in 170 of its locations earlier this week, the Columbus-based company said on Wednesday.

The new topping is the result of a partnership with Field Roast, which makes artisan plant-based meats and cheeses, and an effort to expand Donatos’ menu to include more options for vegetarians and those looking for more alternatives to meat in their diet, according to the company. executives.

“There’s no better time to introduce plant-based pepperoni to our menu, especially at the start of a New Year when many people decide to make smarter food choices,” said Carol Pasquariello. , senior vice president of marketing for Donatos, in a press release.

This new pizza addition is made with pea protein and traditional Italian seasonings, such as garlic, black pepper, fennel, anise, cayenne pepper and paprika. It contains 50% less sodium, fat and saturated fat than traditional pepperoni, according to the press release, making it an ideal alternative for those hoping to maintain their healthy resolutions.

Representatives from Donatos said the plant-based meat pairs well with the cauliflower rind the company already offers.

“While this addition is a delicious alternative to our traditional pepperoni topping, it absolutely goes hand in hand in flavor and substance,” Pasquariello said, “and we can’t wait for people to try it.”
