Expressing concern over unauthorized COVID-19 vaccines given to children, pharmaceutical company Bharat Biotech urged healthcare workers to be extra ‘vigilant’ and ensure that only Covaxin is given to people aged 15-18 year.

The vaccination campaign for children in this age group began on January 3. Speaking to Twitter late on Friday evening, the Hyderabad-based vaccine maker said, “We have received several reports of other COVID-19 vaccines being administered to individuals in the 15 -18 age group. We humbly ask healthcare workers to be extra vigilant and to ensure that only Covaxin is given to people between the ages of 15 and 18. “

“Covaxin received approval based on extensive clinical trial evaluation for safety and immunogenicity in the age group 2 to 18 years. Currently, it is the only COVID-19 vaccine in India approved for children, ”he added.

Bharat Biotech’s COVID vaccine – Covaxin – is the vaccine developed by India and is the only vaccine licensed for use in children aged 15 to 18.

Earlier today, the company released a clarification that no pain relievers are recommended for children receiving Jab Covaxin.

Covaxin is one of three vaccines currently in use in the country for the national immunization program. The other two are the Covishield of the Serum Institute of India (SII) and the Sputnik V of Russia.
