Porvair Sciences has developed a 2mL 96-well microplate with a design optimized for laboratories processing cannabis samples for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) analysis.
Sample processing is the second step in cannabis strain testing. This is done after collecting leaf, bud and flower samples from cannabis plants, ready for an accurate determination of the THC/CBD ratio by HPLC.
Traditionally, sample processing protocols used ball mills or grinders to homogenize plant materials. When this sample processing is performed in standard polypropylene microplates, the extreme forces applied by these machines can damage the plates, leading to cracks, leaks, and incorrect results due to sample cross-contamination.
To address these design shortcomings, Porvair Sciences developed a reinforced microplate capable of withstanding the forces applied in the bead beaters while maintaining a standard ANSI/SLAS footprint making the methodology compatible with automation.
Based on a 2mL square well block design, the Porvair Sciences Cannabis Sample Processing Microplate sets a new standard for reliable, high-productivity processing of cannabis plants. To ensure that any contamination of the plate will not affect the THC/CBD analysis, Porvair Sciences uses only pure polypropylene, without extractables, to manufacture its plates.
