Tension had reigned in the village on Saturday after the discovery of the objects at the entrance of the temple.

A day after ‘animal body parts’ were found at the entrance to a temple in Rasoolabad village in Kannauj, the superintendent of police and the district magistrate were removed from their posts and the SHO from the Talgram police station was suspended.

Police said they were working to arrest the accused. “Our teams are working and very soon we will be making arrests,” Kanpur (range) Inspector General Prashant Kumar said.

“The situation is now under control and the area is under police surveillance,” a senior officer said.

Tension had reigned in the village on Saturday after the discovery of the objects at the entrance of the temple. After the recovery was made, some people engaged in arson protesting the incident. A separate FIR has been filed in connection with the arson, along with two other FIRs, police said.

A senior officer said SP Rajesh Srivastava and DM Rakesh Kumar had been removed from their posts. “The new DM will be Shubrant Shukla, while the SP will be Kunwar Anupam Singh,” the officer said.

“Talgram Station House Officer has also been suspended, and the new SHO is Jitendra Pratap Singh,” an officer said.

Police had filed three FIRs after the incident. One of the FIRs was linked to the arson during the protests and 12 people were taken into custody for questioning.
