Commercial electric vehicle manufacturer EKA unveils its first E9 e-bus

Commercial electric vehicle maker EKA unveiled its first E9 e-bus on Saturday.

The e-bus was unveiled on Saturday by Maharashtra Government Minister of Tourism and Environment, Aaditya Thackeray, along with Sudhir Mehta, Chairman of EKA and Pinnacle Industries Limited, during the Pune Alternate Fuel Conclave (AFC ). EKA is a subsidiary of Pinnacle Industries.

Organized by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) and the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB), in association with the Maratha Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA), the conclave is an initiative of the government of Maharashtra.

The EKA E9 is powered by a 200KW electric motor, delivering faster acceleration, more horsepower, greater pulling power and 17% grading ability to tackle any terrain and a regenerative braking system, the company said in a statement.

“The electrification of commercial vehicles, public transport, especially the bus sector, is key to India’s decarbonization strategy. Today, we are excited to launch our first EKA E9 electric bus, to help cities achieve their zero emissions goals,” Mehta said.

Eka buses are designed and optimized to deliver the best driving experience and customer feedback, he said, adding, “With the new EKA E9, we are offering a global platform for clean public transport, efficient and cost-effective to meet rising demand in important markets that are ready for the shift to electromobility.” EKA said its first battery-electric bus features a new streamlined vehicle design, maximized power and range and a lower total cost of ownership (TCO) than existing internal combustion engine powered buses, the new vehicle promises to deliver durability and cost effectiveness to all stakeholders.
