Coda Story Bruno Reporting Fellowships 2022 (up to $5,000)

Applications are now open for the 2022 Coda Story Bruno Reporting Fellowships. The 2022 Fellowships support three 3-month reporting projects that result in a remarkable story to be published on the Coda website and editorial partner websites.

The scholarship recipient is expected to spend 8 weeks writing and writing, and 4 weeks working with an editor before publishing an enterprise feature. Published stories resulting from the fellowship are expected to be approximately 4,000-5,500 words.


  • The fellowship offers a $5,000 honorarium to cover payment for the story. Pre-approved expenses will be covered separately.
  • Throughout the fellowship, the journalist will benefit from mentorship, guidance, and editorial support from Coda editors and staff.


  • Open to early-career journalists working in countries where journalism is under-resourced and issues relating to Coda’s editorial concerns are under-reviewed.
  • Journalists working in Southeast Asia, South Asia, Central Asia and Africa are particularly encouraged to apply.
  • Candidates must have excellent written and spoken English and have experience writing reports in English.


To apply for the scholarship, fill out this Google form, which will ask you to submit:

  • Up to 500 words describing why your story matters, how much Coda Story (authoritarian technology, misinformation, war on science) it fits, potential characters, how and where it has been previously covered (and how you do it move forward) and why you are the right person to perform it.
  • A reporting plan and budget for all travel, reporting and research costs.
  • A brief cover letter stating why the scholarship is right for you.
  • Three clips released.

All files must be uploaded to the Google form in .pdf format, not exceeding 5MB each, with the naming convention LASTNAME_Documentname.
