Babu was apprehended immediately after appearing for questioning at Ernakulam South Police Station. The High Court granted bail to the actor, however, it ordered that if the Kerala Police wanted to arrest him, he should be released on bail with a bond of Rs 5 lakh with two sureties. The court also allowed the investigative team to interview the actor on July 3 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
There are also reports that suggest the actor could be arrested again by the police. However, this time for revealing the survivor’s name on social media. The actor was released on bail by the Kerala High Court on June 22, but the court asked him not to leave the state.
Even before the arrest, the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) announced at its general meeting that no action will be taken against Babu until the final court judgment.
Meanwhile, Women Cinema Collective (WCC) strongly criticized AMMA for including Babu in the general assembly. Actress Swetha Menon resigned from the Internal Complaints Committee in protest at Babu’s inclusion.
