BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) – In an effort to celebrate Women’s History Month but also to encourage young women, two nonprofit organizations, For a Real Change and Light of Chance have teamed up to paint his story
“When we paint, it’s a bit like celebrating them, and talking about them is also very important,” says Shiloh Peterson, a participant in the event.
“I came here because I really wanted to paint about women and since it’s like Women’s History Month, and it seemed really interesting to do,” she also adds.
Girls in grades 5 through 12 were able to register for the event in person or virtually. The event encourages attendees to visualize their own stories while potentially creating new friendships.
“I think it’s pretty cool and stuff that a lot of girls got together and did that,” said Ollie Sartor, an attendee at the event.
Some of the girls say it is important to recognize the impact women have had in history and to promote support for each other.
“I feel like the women really need to stick together like this year, as a lot of them like to get down instead of up,” says Vayani Tarrent, another attendee at the event.
The girls were able to paint canvases depicting friendship with well-known artist Alice Waddell.
