According to industry body FADA (Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations), Okinawa Autotech is the country’s largest maker of electric two-wheelers after selling 9,309 units in May 2022. Last year, in May, there were none. sold only 217 units. The company is actively planning to expand its electric vehicle business which had recently announced an investment of Rs 1200-1500 crore in electric two-wheelers over the next two years.
“We launched our first product in India in 2017 and have over 1,50,000 products on the road across India. The May sales show our commitment to creating products that change the whole perception of both- electric wheels for our customers.We have a defined customer centric approach, which focuses on providing an exceptional customer experience, whether in terms of our extensive dealer network or the provision of roadside assistance, EMI options, application connectivity, etc.” Jeetender Sharma, Founder and Managing Director, Okinawa said.
“We will continue to grow with strong vigor in the coming year with our world-class manufacturing facilities that feature state-of-the-art technology creating a complete ecosystem of Electric -2- Wheeler in the country,” a- he added.
Ola Electric, last month’s top electric two-wheeler, became the second-largest maker of electric scooters with 9,225 units sold, according to FADA.
However, the future of electric vehicle growth is in question and could affect the industry in the short term amid frequent cases of electric vehicle fires. In recent weeks, electric scooters from Ola Electric, Pure EV, Okinawa Scooters, etc. reported incidents related to fires. Following the events, Okinawa had recalled 3,215 units of its Praise Pro EV “to address any battery-related issues.”
“We are fully ready to roll into a sustainable future and our recent JV with Italian electric two-wheeler manufacturer Tacita aims to reduce the use of fossil fuels, as well as establish us as a key player in the world. electric two-wheelers, manufacturing a global futuristic electric two-wheeler for domestic and international markets,” said Sharma.
