EE has released a statement after customers reported problems making phone calls and using data in Birmingham and other parts of the UK. The cellphone provider has been hit by complaints on Twitter, with users saying the service has been down for hours.

The company confirmed that “some” customers were having issues making calls and using data. DownDetector – a site that analyzes data to log outages – has seen reports of problems from people in London, Glasgow and Birmingham. EE released a statement to let customers know they were working on a fix.

A spokesperson for EE said: “Some customers are having issues making calls and using data on our network. We are working as quickly as possible to resolve this issue and are truly sorry for any inconvenience caused. Services Broadband and EE landlines are unaffected, and customers can use Wi-Fi Calling to stay connected.”

Furious customers took to Twitter to complain. Robert Thompson replied to EE: “shocking service was down for over 2 hours now i need internet to go to work as i am a taxi driver will you cover the money i lose on #EE #eedown.”

@nadiae97 said: “I haven’t had internet or phone service since 10am this morning. Just kidding.” Adam Kayam added: “I’m a delivery driver and I’ve lost £50-80 a day wages because your mobile network has been down all day, it’s ridiculous, I rely on your services and the internet .”
